Introduction
"If we maintain our faith in God, love of freedom, and superior global air power, the future [of the US] looks good." - General Curtis Lemay
The United States of America has been a global superpower over the past one-hundred years on land, sea, and air and has participated in multiple wars and combat situations. One significant aspects of these wars/battles is the air power that the United States wields and how it has improved and continues to improve to retain such a powerful air position. American air power began it's roots in World War 1 as a small force to a large force protecting multiple countries around the world. The growth of American military aviation is amazing when one considers that one-hundred years ago, slow and simple biplanes flew the skies and now high speed stealth jet fighters fly the skies.
American Military Aviation surprisingly started during the Civil War when balloons were used for reconnaissance missions and Intel-gathering purposes. It further progressed after the Wright Brothers invention of the airplane in which faster aircraft would conduct reconnaissance missions and in some cases bombing and fighter positions. American military aviation enormously grew in World War 2 for reconnaissance, bombing, fighting, and transportation and massive advances in aircraft t which led to the creation of jet fighters and advanced aircraft developed in the Cold War due to the arms race against the Soviet Union. After decades of growth, aviation is much more prominent in the military providing air superiority and important ground support attacks. This website seeks to inform others on aviation in the military and its impact on the US and the world.
